• Can professional design BUILD my business?

As we drive down the highway, we pass billboard after billboard. In the dentist’s waiting room, we quickly flip through the pages of a magazine. What makes your brain choose what to remember from the billboards, or which page to stop on in the magazine? Is it a colour that catches your eye? A word? An image?

    Two seconds.

As a business owner, two seconds is the average amount of time you have to grab a customer’s attention.

Are you panicking yet? Don’t worry; it’s actually much easier than you think.

As we drive down the highway, we pass billboard after billboard. In the dentist’s waiting room, we quickly flip through the pages of a magazine. What makes your brain choose what to remember from the billboards, or which page to stop on in the magazine? Is it a colour that catches your eye? A word? An image?

Picture this: You’re walking through a trade show and you see hundreds of business owners, each one itching to talk to you. They all have something to sell, and they are all passionate about what they do. As you pass by each booth, these business owners have mere seconds to grab your attention. So how do they do it? What catches your eye to make you say, “Hey, this looks like something I need to check out!”?

The truth is you’re not the customer in this situation. You’re the business owner. You’re the one standing at the booth. You are passionate and dedicated, and your business holds a major place in your heart. While all of these wonderful things may ring true, you still need those clients to make the decision to walk up to your booth. So, how do you sway them in only two seconds?

I’ll tell you what sways them: The proper use of Graphic Design.

First of all, what the heck is Graphic Design? Well, there are many entities that make up Graphic Design in a business sense. Think logos, websites, business cards, banners, mobile apps and posters, to name a few.

To put it in a single word, graphic design is art. It is a type of art that can help create an image for your business. It is the hand that reaches out and grabs the viewer’s attention. It conveys a message to your target audience about who you are and what you offer. It sets you apart from your competition by getting you noticed and ensuring you are remembered.

You may not know what Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg looks like, but you can probably recognize the Facebook colour blue. You may not know how many calories are in a big mac, but you sure as heck know the golden arches when you see ‘em.

Long story short, professional graphic design will help BUILD your business, and make those two seconds count.
